Hi guys! I have come across something odd. Whirlpool makes a motor 661600. Some of them have a purple wire that comes from the windings to the motor switch. Others do not have this wire. I have found that machines with permanent press are affected (Perm Press does not function). If you put in the wrong 661600 (the one without the purple wire) Perm press will not function. Is this a result of a different series of machines? I can not see any differentiation between series and part numbers. Thanks for your help.

HI MB,

I've never seen that motor come WITHOUT the purple wire. 661600 has been changed to WP661600.

Here's the WP661600 for model number LSQ9549LW0:
WP661600 Direct Drive Washer Motor

It would help if you take a photo of each of these motors you see WITH and WITHOUT that purple wire.

It appears so Matt.

Did you get this perm press function resolved?

No. I am trying to figure out why some motors have a purple wire and others do not. However, this 661600 seems to replace a number of these motors both with and without the purple wire. Did Whirlpool just build a universal motor for several applications?

I really don't know Matt, but that sounds logical to me.:)
