Hello,

My Maytag washer has just started making what sounds like metal to metal noises during the agitation phase and spin cycle. However its much lounder during the spin cycle. Kinda sounds like bearing noises to me but I know nothing about washers:confused: . Any help with this problem and a cost estimate to fix would be appreciated...

Thanks,
Joe

P.S. By the way great forum!!

I had the same problem. It turned out to be a bearing keeper spring on the water pump pulley. It had come loose, was riding up toward the bottom of the pump and was cutting a hole in the bottom of the water pump metal foundation any time the belt was moving the pulley. The noise was louder on the spin cycle because the pulley is going faster then. This was a very poor design job. I ended up replacing the pump. The washer works fine now. The new pump's pulley does not seem to have the same design as the original.
