Maytag Bravos XL Dryer Burn Marks

I’ve spent an hour Googling this but can’t find any previous posts that match my problem: the “grate” [I believe that’s what it’s called - the vent inside the dryer] is leaving black, crusty burn marks on clothes. The burns are patterned identical to this vent with small circles on them, and it’s only athletic clothes [Nike, Under Armour, etc] and fleece clothing that end up with the burns; jeans and cotton clothes come out fine. I regularly clean the lint trap, never overstuff the dryer, and always dry the clothes on “normal” and adjust the heat to “low.” We bought the dryer brand new in August 2018. There is zero burning smell, and the “good airflow” light stays green throughout the entire cycle, so I’m really at a loss here on what could be causing this. Any input would be much appreciated, thank you!

I am having the same exact issue and am under warranty. Did you get this resolved and if you did can you tell me what they did to repair?

We are having the same exact problem(Maytag Bravos XL). Maytag sent over a repair man to look at our dryer. He ordered a new mother board, which controls and regulates the temps. We only had our dryer for two weeks. We have the same burn marks on synthetic clothing. We are not over stuffing our dryer either, and are now using delicate mode using low heat setting for now. I never had this problem on any previous dryers.

Same problem here, has anyone found a solution or had the company acknowledge the problem and offer a remedy?

Hi. We did get the grill/grate inside the dryer replaced by a tech under warranty. The warranty and repair done by the retailer we purchased from and not from Maytag. The tech that came out to repair stated that the issue could be that there are too many dryer sheets being put in the dryer or the duct is clogged. After the repair was made it still continues to burn the grate marks on sheets and clothes and only using one dryer sheet per load and cleaning lint screen after each use. We also had the duct cleaned on our own this week.I will keep you updated to see if the duct cleaning made a difference. We were quoted $350 to clean out the duct. Instead of moving forward with that we bought a $20 duct self cleaning kit from HD and had no problem doing the duct cleaning ourselves.

We had a duct cleaning service come out and they checked the flow, looked into the duct and said ours was not dirty and it was not the problem. (Good people that didn't even charge for the diagnostic call.) It has got to be a problem within the dryer itself.

I am shocked we can’t find any other threads or posts anywhere because I do believe you are correct and it’s an issue with the dryer. If I have any updates or find anything I will post here.

My Bravos XL is doing the same thing. The grate has small jagged edges now that are tearing our clothes. Recall time I think. Clean the lint tray every time and our vent was cleaned before we bought this machine.

Good Afternoon, my Maytag Bravos has been doing this since 2017 when we bought this dryer. I have had technicians come out twice and neither one of them found the dryer faulty, which I think is ludicrous. Has anyone found a solution? Information on this issue is almost nonexistent. I am at the point that I am ready to purchase a new dryer.

We gave up and replaced it. As much as I hated to spend the money, we never found an answer and were really tired of having clothes ruined.

My dryer has been doing this for the last year or two. We've kept from too many problems by keeping the load size really low, but even with certain clothes cannot get the setting low enough. Are there any ideas on how to get this taken care of? Had a service man out about 6 months ago, and of course sees the burn area on the vent and wants to claim that because something is burned on there, that's causing the problem of catching clothes as they go around.

Has anyone found a solution to this? We are on the verge of buying a new dryer but hate to this as ours are not that old. We've had technicians out and they find nothing wring. We replaced the intake/vent in the back a few weeks ago and the problem is back. It doesn't seem to happen all the time to further complicated the issue. I called Maytag and they conveniently have never heard of this. I'm tired of clothes getting ruined and worry my dryer is getting too hot and is a safety concern!
