I have the washing machine in the title, we bought it about 3 years ago, but it was used. It will light the "sensing" LED, some water will be start running, then the water stops and the "lid locked" light will start blinking. You can hear and feel the lock trying to latch.

At first, I could remove the red cover on the lid lock module (I'm not sure of the correct term) and toggle the rocker back and forth a few times, put it back together and it would run at least one cycle (sometimes 3 or 4) before the behavior would start again.

Now it won't start at all. I replaced the lid lock module (part number w10404050) and it still won't work. I checked the resistance, yellow and white (J15 1 & 3) was 122. J15 3 & 4 ( white and red) had no value and J15 2 & 3 (blue and white) read 20 which is what the leads show when touched together.

Googling seems to indicate it is the main board, I'm hoping I'm wrong and am missing an easy (and cheaper) fix.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Were you able to get into the diagnostics with your tech data sheet? Then check to see what fault code you are getting?

I'm posting your Lid Lock Switch and the video of how to access and replace it, but I don't want you to replace the lid switch AGAIN unless you get an error code saying to replace it or if it tests bad. The main reason I'm posting your lid lock switch and video is just to show you how to access your tech. data sheet.

Here's the lid lock switch for your model:
Door Latch W10404050

Watch this video below, Once you have the top up, there should be a tech. data sheet inside the front panel.

Let us know what you find.

I found an copy of the data sheet online, there doesn't seem to be one in the machine.

In the diagnostic mode, sensing, rinse and done light, then go out and done lights up.

Ok, I'm attaching your tech data sheet below, look on page 6.

In the diagnostic mode, sensing, rinse and done light, then go out and done lights up.
That would be F5E1 – LID SWITCH FAULT
Fault is displayed if lid is in locked state, but lid switch is open.
• User presses START with lid open.
• The main control cannot detect the lid switch opening and closing properly.
• See TEST #8: Lid Lock, page 18.

I checked the resistance, yellow and white (J15 1 & 3) was 122.
That's good.

J15 3 & 4 ( white and red) had no value
That's not good, LOCK SWITCH should be 0 ohms when LOCKED and OPEN CIRCUIT when UNLOCKED.

J15 2 & 3 (blue and white) read 20 which is what the leads show when touched together.
That's not good, LID SWITCH--->LID CLOSED should be 0 ohms, LID OPEN should be OPEN CIRCUIT.

So it looks like a bad lid switch assembly, contact the place where you got it from and tell them its defective, and they should be able to send you another one for free.

I've replaced the lid lock switch with another from a different seller. I've replaced the latch too, still starts with the sensing light solid, some water goes into the machine, then a load click is heard and the lid locked light starts blinking. Does this mean I need to replace the control board.

I've been messing with the switch, latch and bezel outside of the machine and the bezel appears to be too thick. I can get the lock to engage (physically, not electrically) without the bezel, but not with it.

seller? You getting these on amazon or ebay?

Its to get them OEM brand new, like from the link to it in my post #2 above.

The first was Amazon (switch and bezel), the second was Sears (switch, bezel and latch).

Also, I have gotten it to work sometimes, by taking apart the original switch and moving the part that toggles back and forth by the electromagnetic piston.

In my post #4 your lid lock did not test good, are these new ones testing good?

Ok, then you have multiple problems, and I would need to come out to see what's going on, since I'm too far away contact Maytag at 1-800-344-1274 and have a AUTHORIZED MAYTAG TECH come out, THEY HAVE THE MAYTAG FACTORY HOTLINE NUMBER, that they can call from your house to get them involved to see why this is happening.

Excellent, glad to hear the new control board fix it.(y)

Thanks for the update!

Here's the control board for your model, in case others need it too:

I found it pretty quick and easy to replace, took less than 15 minutes, but have also taken the washer apart multiple times when I was figuring out the issue.

Thanks again for your help.

Wonderful, lets for letting us know.(y)
