Hi all,

I have a Maytag Commercial washer, and about a month ago, we noticed it wasn't getting the clothes very clean. Around that same time (and I can't tell if it always like this, or if it actually changed), but I noticed a clicking once or twice in between cycles. The agitator dogs aren't worn, and after reading many posts here, I replaced the shift actuator with another OEM one. I ran a test cycle, and it did everything as it should. I was excited, thinking I'd fixed it, BUT when I actually ran a load it was back to its normal hijinks.

Here's what it does: the agitation seems to barely move back and forth, maybe 90 degrees each way. Additionally, if I reach down and feel the bottom plate (with the vertical fins), I can basically stop it from agitating with minimal pressure. It seems the weight of the clothes or the water are enough to keep the agitator from actually moving much around.

I removed the top of the agitator, and checked the spline shaft. Some dirt and grime in there, but didn't seem chewed up or worn enough to prevent function. I removed the drive hub at the base of the agitator, and again it was pretty dirty, but seemed to have its teeth intact. The slide-in clip is worn around where it the shaft spins in the center. Would that be causing this? Or could it be something else.

Please help! My wife is ready to throw the towel in, but I'd love to see if I could fix it.

Hi,

Make sure the plastic splutch cam is not starting to wear out and causing that to happen, you can see a good photo of it here:

Your Maytag model uses that exact same splutch as that Whirlpool does.

Here's the splutch cam kit for your model:

I have the same exact model and the same exact problem except the lower fins on mine only rotate about 15-20 degrees.

I took out the splutch cam to see if it was worn out but it looks absolutely pristine. Zero signs of any wear.

I've observed the shift actuator many times during manual test mode and it appears to perform a complete stroke every time.

Like the OP, I also checked the dogs and they are fine.

What's the next thing to look into?

Yes, that's the problem, good find.(y)

That's the correct hub for your model.

For others following your thread--->Here's a video to access/replace it:
