Maytag Bravos MEDX655DW, 3.5 yrs old, purchased at Lowes. Push to start style. It wouldn't turn on. I did a few spot checks, and replaced the thermal fuse and cleaned out the back and hose very well (it was not clogged, and lint screen is always cleaned after every use).

After replacing thermal fuse, I set it to timed dry and it came on! it ran almost thru to the "stop" but stopped short of the Stop position and would not come on again. A day or so later I tried it again, different timed setting, and it came on but only ran for about 5 minutes.

I checked the door switch with a multimeter and it tested bad so I replaced it. After replacement, I checked the light, it was on with the door open. I then set it to timed dry , shut the door and it immediately came on! it ran for 30 minutes and stopped, but again just barely short of the "stop" location on the timer dial. It would not come back on.

I'm not sure what to look for next. It is heating and the blower is blowing full blast thru the vent. I checked just now and when I open the door the light does not come on.

Did you ohm test that new door switch? If its blown out again something is causing it to blow out.

Here's the door switch for your model:

Run the dryer on a NO HEAT/AIR FLUFF cycle without clothes in it and see if you get heat or not.

If you don't get heat in a NO HEAT/AIR FLUFF cycle, let it keep running and see if the timer turns off at the end of that cycle by-itself.

Hi Jake, thanks for the reply. I will take out the switch and see if it tests clean. I can't run it on no heat/ air fluff because it won't even start. When it DOES run, I do get heat and it seems to be correct for the setting (low / med / high).

Hi Jake... I tested both new parts- the door latch and the thermal fuse - on Ohms for continuity and both tested good. Any further thoughts?

Then it seems the timer is the culprit.

Here's the timer for your model:

Hi Jake, Thanks , is there a way to test the timer easily before I buy? And is this common?

Nope, because its so intermittent. If you click the timer part link I posted above, you will see many other people with this similar issue of the timer being the culprit.

When you start the dryer, does it make a grinding sound? If so, your motor bearing has gone bad and that's why its shutting down.

When you try to immediately start your dryer after it shuts down, does it start? If not, then it could be just overheating and shutting down, lint build up on the motor and in the motor breather vents can cause this too.

Here's the motor for your model(Video Included):
279827 Dryer Drive Motor

The video when you click the link to the motor will show you how to access it to check for lint build-up on it, and it will also show you how to replace it.

Hi Jake. Well, I wish I had better news.... I replaced the timer, easy peasy. As soon as I plugged it in, I could hear it ticking in the "cool down" setting as it was not on OFF. It clicked and moved to Off. Yay! I ran it for a fluff, low heat session of about 25 minutes, it worked perfectly. Today, I washed clothes and loaded them and set it to Medium, about 40 minutes timed dry.

It worked perfectly, to the Off position. the clothes weren't dry so I went to run it again, and Nope. Will not start. I tried a few different settings, it won't start. So it worked perfectly two times and now will not come on. I've so far replaced the thermal fuse, the door switch and now the timer. (another item of note, but not alarming <?>, is that the light is not coming on when I open the door, although it has before- bad light maybe?).
Thoughts?

More... it's about an hour later. I pushed the "start" button and this time it made a 'click' noise so I advanced the timer from off to about a ~30 minute timed dry, pushed start and it came on. It worked for about 10 minutes and then shut off, but I could hear the timer clicking (advancing) even though the dryer was not drying or tumbling.

I waited about 2 minutes, pushed start again, it started, but then almost immediately stopped, maybe 15 -30 seconds. The large back plate is still off and so is the small top plate that covers the timer. the heater does not seem overheated and there's no burning smell or odd hot smell. I can put my hand close to the metal covering the elements (not touching) and it doesn't seem super hot- warm but not like on fire.

Hi Jake and all who may be reading this - after a Maytag repairman came out, everything checked out fine (esp my new parts lol) and it was determined by an electrician to be a faulty breaker - a 5 minute fix. Thanks for the support.

Excellent, glad to hear that faulty breaker was all it was.(y)

That is extremely rare to ever see happen.

Thanks for the update!
