maytag dryer heats but motor doesn't turn

When timer is started the machine heats but motor only humms. (maybe the heat element is humming?) I replaced the motor and no change. I watched the motor shaft from the back when the machine was started and shaft didn't turn.

The door switch seems to work - the low humming stops when the door is opened.

Any other items I should check? Thanks, Steve

If you can post the model# that would help us as maytag does have different type models.

Could be a timer issue ora start relay problem.

Motor turns ok by hand when its installed in the dryer?

Some Maytags had a start relay in the console, but as Jeff said yours does not.

You have a start switch on the motor itself, but if you already changed the motor then it should have come with the new motor as a assembly.

That Link Jeff gave you should help with your dryer problem.

It was the thermo fuse right in the front. So I wasted over $100 for the motor BUT it did force me to learn how to use a Multimeter - I learned how to check voltage - 220 and 110 and I learned how to check "continuity".

Thanks for all your help.

Applianceaid.com was VERY helpful!!
