I recently took this machine apart to replace the rollers 12001541 in the back and the belt 33002535 because of how much noise they were making.

Since my "repair" the machine is much quieter but will not stop running while on the Auto Dry setting, and will continue to run after the chime goes off when on the Time Dry setting.

I took it back apart to attempt to see what I might have messed up while working inside the machine and everything appears to still be connected.

Any idea what I might have done to cause this or how to fix it?

Thanks

Hi,

Does the timer not advance in auto dry? Timed dry? Air dry?

Try it in all those cycles and report back.

And this problem wasn't happening before you took it apart to replace the rollers and belt?

Also check the sensor wires to the drum sensor to make sure that's in place, should be near the front of the drum.

I was mistaken in my original post. I did a Timed Dry today and the machine did stop when it was supposed to.

Then I tried an Auto Dry, and it seemed to take a really long time to get the clothes dry. I stopped the machine after about two hours because the clothes were dry and getting pretty hot. The timer never advanced.

This machine was working fine before I took it apart, just very noisy.

I looked around the drum for the sensor wires you mentioned but didn't see any.

I did notice when I looked behind the machine that there is a pretty good sized dent in the vent, not sure if I kinked it when I opened the top of the machine.

That's exactly what I was going to mention next, then that's the problem because on auto-dry the timer only moves when the element is off, so with a vent restriction the element will keep cycling on the high-limit thermostat and never cycle normally on the cycling thermostat to allow the timer to move.

To test this, just pull your dryer out from the wall remove the vent exhaust completely then run a auto-dry cycle with no clothes in it and the timer should move.

Machine has been running on Auto Dry for over an hour with no clothes in it and no vent attached. Unfortunately the dial has not advanced one bit. Any advice where I go from here?

That's very strange, and it was working fine on auto dry before you before you took it apart to replace the rollers and belt?

On this model the auto-dry works per the internal bias heater on the cycling thermostat. There are 2 small brass colored terminals on it, make sure both your 2 small wires are attached to it, you may have left them off by accident when you re-assembled your dryer.

Here's the cycling thermostat for your model below, its on the blower wheel housing:

The internal bias heater should have a resistance of 2400 ohms resistance (across the two small, brass colored terminals in the center).

It is also a SPDT(single throw, double pole) switch. when the temperature is below 150 degrees the circuit travels across the two lower terminals across from each other and the heater circuit is completed. When the temperature is reached the thermo disc "opens" and the circuit "switches" between the common lower terminal and the upper terminal on the dual side, this supplies 120 VAC to the timer motor and advances the timer until the thermostat resets and starts the heat cycle again.

All of the wires are plugged into the switch. However, it is reading 28k ohms across the two terminals. I'm thinking it's worth trying a replacement switch. Thanks for the information!

28K ohms? or 2800 ohms?

Yes, either way its not reading 2400 ohms like it should, so yes I'd replace it.

Jake

pretty sure its 28,000 ohms. meter read infinity on 20k range, read 28 on 200k range.

the new part read the same resistance as the old one, though, and didn't change anything after being installed.

however, i think you were on to something earlier when you suggested i check the vent, because i just cleaned a ton of lint out of the trap where the lint screen lives, and now the dial will move in auto dry. it looks like everything is working now, I cant believe I didnt give it a better cleaning before trying all this other stuff. I still have no idea why it worked perfectly before i changed the belt, and didnt work after, but I guess I'll never know.

thanks so much for all your help Jake

That's very odd.

Excellent Jack, I'm glad to hear that.:)

Merry Christmas!
