I have a Maytag Electric Dryer, Model SDE3606AYW

The Start button (Push To Start / PTS) works fine in any drying mode.

But as soon as I release the PTS it won't stay running.

Holding the PTS, the dryer operates correctly.

I have disassembled the dryer and have found all wiring correct and in-place (to the best of my knowledge).

Thoughts (aside from duct-taping the PTS switch down)?

We just hit our rainy season here, so the clothesline is a much less desirable option.

Likely defective motor

as soon as I release the PTS it won't stay running.
It sounds like the motor's run winding isn't engaging. If the switch on the motor isn't just jammed up with with dust and lint, etc. the motor is likely defective and needs to be replaced.

aside from duct-taping the PTS switch down
That would force the motor to operate on the start winding only. That would probably cause the motor to overheat and potentially create a fire hazard. The real fix would be replacing the motor if defective.

That's exactly what I was afraid of.

Dead (or dying) motor replacement pricing isn't as cost effective as buying a different dryer.

Well, it was totally worth a shot to ask, and I appreciate the quick responses. Thanks!

dryer won't start. Ideas? I'm headed home so I'll check the exhaust vent for obstructions. What else should I try? Thanks in advance!

Check that it's getting power.

If you need further assistance please start a NEW message of your own (rather than tacking onto someone else's post about a different symptom) and be sure to include the dryer's brand name and its exact model number, to enable others here to try to assist you.
