Hey everyone,

My Maytag fridge is cool but not cold. Same with the freezer, soft ice cream. The compressor and fan are running. I cleaned the condensor coils out, which had minimal improvement. I am suspecting that the evaporator fan is bad as there is no airflow from the vents in the fridge. So...I have two questions about this. How do the drawers come out of the freezer? Secondly, how do I test the evaporator fan and what am I looking for with a meter? I have scoured the internet and cannot find a service manual for the life of me.

I'm attaching your owners manual below, Pages 8 and 9 is for removing the freezer door front. It does not say how to remove the freezer drawer shelves, but they should just lift up and out.

Watch this video too, it should give you the general idea of how to get access to the FREEZER(FC) Evaporator Fan Motor:

Here's the FREEZER(FC) Evaporator Fan Motor for your model:
Evaporator Fan Motor WPW10514110

I'm also attaching your tech. data sheet below, DO--->Service Test - 3: Evaporator Fan and Air Baffle Motors
--->Turn on the FC evaporator fan and the air baffle motor.
--->Monitor the air baffle feedback. SW3 (01 = fan on. Air baffle open, 02 = fan on. Air baffle closed).

At the main control board in the back of the refrigerator you can check for 14 VOLTS DC across connector P14 pin 1(blue wire) and pin 2(white wire). You can also check those two wires at the FREEZER(FC) Evaporator Fan Motor when your in TEST 3 if you want.

Well, I finally made my way to the refrigerator grave yard at the transfer station where I grabbed an evaporator blower assembly out of a Kenmore. It took awhile to get the drawer assemblies out, with no casualties haha. The rear panel was covered in frost. I put a fan in front to that it out. Once I could see the screws I noticed that the evaporator is full of ice. Now while the fridge was running I could hear the fan hitting something. I figured the shaft was bent from the kids slamming it. Perhaps it was just hitting ice though? Or can these build up ice if the evaporator fan fails?

What was the model number of that Kenmore? Does the evaporator fan motor match up perfect?

Or can these build up ice if the evaporator fan fails?
That is possible too.

How's it working now?

Suspicions confirmed. The evaporator fan is toast. It is hard to turn, and upon removal I found the blue wire is broken off and was making intermittent contact through one strand. The used motor I found has an older part number...says it draws 4.2 watts instead of 1.5 on the broken one. Other than that it is identical...in she goes!
