Our Maytag MDB4949SHZ0 will no longer complete a wash cycle. It runs for 5-20 minutes then stops and drains itself and ends with no lights lit. The unit seems to be filling and draining fine. I ran a diagnostic cycle and get error code 6-4. I found the tech sheet and followed some of the things to check. The float isn't stuck and I verified it is "clicking". Water doesn't drain into the dishwasher from the drain hose. The dishwasher isn't trying to fill with the door open. I also took apart the door and don't see any loose connections or wires. Any other ideas? I do have a multimeter handy but some of the wiring diagrams aren't 100% clear for a novice.

I'm attaching your tech data sheet below.

This is what error code 6-4 says:

Did you check for too many SUDS in the tub water?

Thanks for the reply. I've made sure the right detergent was being used. We've also ran it several times without any detergent and completely empty at all and it still only runs for a few minutes before stopping and draining. I've also checked the drain hose and the float switch isn't stuck.

Ok, then it did everything it mentioned to do for that 6-4 error, then its possibly a faulty control board.

Here's the control board for your model: W11225084 Cntrl-Elec

Check your owners manual warranty, some models have a 5 yr. warranty on the control board.

If the control board is not covered under warranty, you can also contact Maytag at 1-800-344-1274 and have a AUTHORIZED MAYTAG TECH come out, THEY HAVE THE MAYTAG FACTORY HOTLINE NUMBER, that they can call from your house to get them involved to see why this is happening, just to be on the safe side before ordering the control board.

I’m curious if you found a solution. This is exactly what mine is doing and I’ve tried the same things you’ve mentioned.

Unfortunately a control board didn't fix it ours.

I ended up calling a local company to come look at it. They concluded the door switch was faulty.

Wow. I would have never guessed a door switch. I'm a novice but the 6-4 code has me focusing on the float switch (which I replaced) and the inlet value which was full of sediment that I cleaned out but didn't help. Makes me want to potentially try the door switch now.

I’m trying to find the right part number online but struggling a bit
1. Open and close door, and then press Start/Resume key.
2. Unplug dishwasher or disconnect power.
3. Measure resistance of door switch contacts while checking mechanical operation of latch assembly.

Check the resistance of the door switch with a multimeter. Should be less than one ohm. High ohms=bad switch.

Here's the door latch switch assembly for your model you can order if yours is bad:
Door Latch WPW10653840

There is a video in the door latch switch part link that shows you how to remove it and replace it.
