Dryer will run for 2 or 3 seconds then the drum stops, but the display lights still work. A clicking noise is heard just before the drum stops rotating. Then a slight burning smell is smelt in the drum.

Can you turn the drum in the dryer freely both ways with your hand? Seems like the dryer drum is binding up on something.

Here's the parts diagram for your model: Maytag Dryer MEDB800VQ0 Repair Parts

Also, check for lint clogs or a foreign object in your blower wheel.

You will need to UNPLUG THE DRYER and take the dryer completely apart then you will have access to the blower wheel and all the other parts inside the dryer with the drum removed.

Here's the blower wheel for your model:

Watch this HOW TO video there to show you how to take your dryer apart and HOW TO to access it, and all the other parts inside the dryer with the drum removed, like the belt and Idler pulley and drum rollers.

The drum does not turn freely. It's quite stiff so something probably is binding up. I'll disassemble the dryer and see what may be binding the drum.

A very sticky substance on the drum.

What is the substance and where did it come from?

Take the dryer drum out and see where its coming from.

Apparently the sticky substance is a belt dressing. The dryer is my son's and he said two years ago the belt was squeaking. So he sprayed it with a belt dressing and it quit making noise.

Looks like the idler pulley is broken.

Ok, that's it then, belt dressing. Unfortunately, your not suppose to put belt dressing on dryer belts, just for automobile belts. But I give him credit for trying.:)

Its best to get the dryer maintenance kit, it comes with a new belt, 4 new rollers, and idler pulley.
