Hi everyone,

I have A Maytag MER8680BS Electric Range

The oven shuts off by itself at random times, resulting in uncooked food and angry, hungry family!

Before I go tearing into it, does anyone have an idea what's happening?

I'm assuming it would be the control board and not the element or thermostat?

Thanks!

When it shuts down does it go back to the clock default? Or it stays at the temperature you set it at but not heating anymore?

Hi Jake,
Thanks for the response. Sorry for the delay getting back to you.

I haven't had problems with the oven, so I asked the other family members who have had problems.
It seems they turn on the oven, then set the timer on the panel, then later find the oven off.

It sounds to me like operator error, with them probably setting the timer wrong, and/or pressing "Cancel" which shuts off the oven.
For now, I think I'm going to do more testing, by asking them to use an external timer and see what happens.

They also say the oven "takes too long" to warm up, so I'm going to get a thermometer and see. I'm not sure if there are specs anywhere that say how long it should take to get to the set temp.

I'm sure it depends on how high it's set. My wife pretty much sets the temp to "burn" every time she cooks, so that must take a while... ;)

I'll let you know in a week or so if the timer/operator error is the problem.

Thanks for your help!

Normal would be about 15-20 minutes with the oven set at 350 to heat up.

OK, great. She said the other day she set it at 400 and it took about 30 minutes, so that sounds about right.

I'll get a thermometer and try to time it...

Thanks!
