I own a Maytag MHW6630HW0 front-load washer. Recently when I start a wash cycle, it makes a buzzing sound, then fills, followed by more buzzing. The drum doesn't spin during agitation. It does spin when it's washing. Not sure if it's a coincidence, but when I start a wash cycle, it will sometimes sit there sensing until I power the washer off/on and restart the wash cycle. I've read about the actuator, but I haven't been able to find one in the parts catalogs I've viewed. I removed the rear cover and saw what I thought might be the actuator, the parts catalog lists it as some type of water pump. I can post a picture if that helps.

Does anyone know what the problem could be with my machine? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Rather not pay for a service call.

Robert

Hi Robert, I'm attaching your data sheet below, its also located under the top panel of your washer.

ACTIVATING THE SERVICE DIAGNOSTIC MODES--->TO ENTER SERVICE DIAGNOSTIC MODE then see what error/fault code you get.

Hi Jake,

Thank you for the help. The error code is E5 F0. A couple months ago I made the mistake of washing a single rug.

Not sure if it matters, my machine is a front-load machine, and the model number is slightly different than the ones in the tech bulletin.

The drum seems to spin fine during the washing part. It only seems to happen during agitation

Hi Again,

I forgot to cycle thru the codes. Sorry about that.

Thank you.

F8E1 Long Fill.

it makes a buzzing sound, then fills, followed by more buzzing.

A clogged or worn out water inlet valve cause the buzzing. Put the washer on COLD WATER ONLY and see if its buzzing and no water is filling the tub. Do the same for HOT WATER ONLY.

COLD Water Inlet Valve W11316256

HOT water inlet valve W11316255

The water inlet valves are on the back of the washer where your fill hoses connect to. You can put you hand on those and see if that's where the buzzing is coming from.

It's not the water inlet valves. The flow seems to be fine, I had left out the dispenser while testing cold, and it was flowing pretty well.

The sound is coming from the bottom front of the machine, in the area where the parts with the blue and red wiring harnesses. It seems to be coming from the side of the blue connector.

The black plastic drain pipe inside the washer vibrates when the buzzing noise is made.

Before posting, I removed the valve with the red wire connected, and it looked fine inside.

I can disassemble and take pictures if that helps.

Many thanks.

F0 E2 is oversuds. Do you see lots of suds in the water drum when this problem happens?

That sounds like possibly the drain pump is buzzing then.

Also the drain pump has a filter in it, that filter can become clogged and make a buzzing sound.

Here's the drain pump with the filter assembly for your model, if needed: Pump-Water W11458345

I can disassemble and take pictures if that helps.
Sure, that would be good to do.

My water isn't the greatest, I wasn't expecting this. Let me know if other pictures would help.

How would you suggest I troubleshoot this, by that I mean, check to determine which part is vibrating. I have to remove the front panel to access this area, but I need to reinstall the door to run the machine or can I run the machine with the front panel door off provided I reconnect the electronics?

Thanks again.

Drain and water pump. I haven't cleaned anything. This is how they came out of the machine.

Thank you.

That's a good question, but I don't know for sure, I haven't needed to do that before on this model.

You can try that and see if you can, but with the front panel off water could come out the front and make a mess as the front door panel boot needs to be in place to prevent that.

You can put the front panel back on, then reach in from the back of the machine and put your hand on that pump and see if you feel it buzzing.
