• ** REMEMBER! **The microwave can still shock you even unplugged!!

ALWAYS discharge the high-voltage capacitor first if you even think your hands will come close to any HIGH VOLTAGE components.

Jeff mentions this: Anything in the high voltage ( magnetron, capacitor, diode, wires to and from ):
...Use a metal ( not the shiny chrome type ) screw driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same time ) the terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it.

My Maytag MMV1153BA microwave has stopped working. I replaced the fuse and it worked for just a moment. I then disassembled it and found that the HV capacitor is bad. The original is rated .86 MFD/2100VAC. I haven't found an exact match, but I did find one rated .86 MFD/2200VAC.

Is it okay to use the capacitor with a SLIGHTLY higher voltage (2200 vs.2100)?

Thanks.

Rick,
Do you mind if I bother you again? I have another question about fuses. The ones I got at my hardware are 20A Bussmann Microwave Fuses. However they are ABC Fast Act and not MDA slow burn or time delay. Will these be okay or should I get the slow burn fuses? Thanks again.

Update: The new capacitor is installed and everything seems to be working fine. I want to say thank you for the responses and the advice you guys gave me.
