Hi, my Maytag refrigerator has been making a clicking noise for several weeks now. It happens at seemingly random times but throughout the day and night. The noise lasts several minutes.
Maintenance in my apartment building has tried replacing the ice maker and this has not fixed the problem. My guess is that it might have something to do with the compressor but I do not know enough about this topic.

Yes I hear it, does it make that same noise when the refrigerator isn't running? When its dead silent?

No, I don't think I have heard the noise when it's silent.

Ok Bianca, then since its only doing it when the refrigerator is running, That tap sound is most likely the freon being pressurized going through the heat exchanger tubing, I hear that on most all models, including mine.

It's nothing to be concerned about as long as its cooling fine.

Is there something that could be done about the noise even if cooling isn't affected at the moment? This gets to be very loud in a studio apartment without kitchen doors. Bianca

This also is a new noise which has only started the past few weeks. There used to be no noise when it was running

Yes I know, It can start making that noise out of the blue sometimes.
