Called a repair tech out. Was told I needed a new refrigerator. Said it would cost to much to fix. Simply took one panel off in freezer and gave me the bad news. I have a deep freeze in the garage and will use it while shopping. I am rather handy but not much with refrigerators.

Upper section of evaporator is frozen/iced up. Any advice?
I have a picture if I can figure out how to post

Hi,

Yes, you have a sealed system problem when you see only the top coil frosty. Normal would be the entire evaporator coil that should have a thin layer of frost on it.

The sealed system consists of the compressor, condenser, evaporator, heat exchanger, filter/drier and refrigerant. Common problems with a sealed system are bad compressors, refrigerant leaks, and system restrictions. Sealed system repair costs will often exceed the machines value.

So, yes its best to buy a new refrigerator.

We recommend Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, and Amana.
