Hey all,

My refrigerator has been dispensing water at an increasingly slow rate for the past few years.

The filters advertise flow rate around 64 oz/minute. I never measured for a while, but I estimate we were getting around 45 oz/min. Starting in 2021 it was becoming so slow that guests started complaining about the flow rate.

In March of 22 I measured the flow rate, an old filter was producing 22 oz/min, a new filter would bump up to 33 oz/min. It continued to go down from there. At this point, a new filter gives us between 6 and 7 oz a minute. Completely useless. Our ice cubes are now coming in more slowly, and when they do, they’re thin and hollow.

I’ve tried multiple brands and batches of filters, but the problem persists. With the Maytag genuine filter installed, no water dispenses. When the filter is removed, no water dispenses.

I’ve pulled the fridge out and verified there are no kinks in the supply line and the valve is turned all the way on.

I have no idea what’s going on or how to proceed.

We have no reverse osmosis system and external hose bibs register PSI over 60

Hi, did you put the bypass cap on first, when no water filter was in place?

Yes, the problem is usually the water filter housing--->You can verify that by using the bypass cap. When you bought the refrigerator it should of come with a blue water filter bypass cap, Put that bypass cap in and see if it works normal again.

Here's the OEM water filter for your model:
Water Filter EDR4RXD1

Here's the water filter bypass cap for this model:

Here's the photo of it:

Here's the water filter housing for your model you can order, if needed:
WP12956202 Water Tank/head Assy.

There is a video in that link to the part I posted above that shows how to replace it.

Let us know how it goes.

Jake,

Thanks so much! I never discovered this earlier, but now I’m finding a number of stories similar to my own. I’ve got no bypass cap (fridge was here when we moved in), and I’m going out of town for two weeks. I’m going to order a replacement water tank/head assembly to install when I return. Will let y’all know. Thanks!

Jake - that was it, thank you so much!! Installed the new water filter housing, and I’ve got an 11 fold increase! Water’s coming out right around 66 oz/min. Can not thank you enough!
