Our Maytag Centennial washer isn't getting the clothes clean.
We've had it about 5.5 years and haven't had any problems until recently.

Observations:
1. Water level appears to be too low - some clothes are getting barely wet, or there are dry spots on the clothes.
2. Not sure if this is normal, but the washplate spins freely both ways.
3. During wash cycle, washplate sounds like it's spinning, and I think I hear the actuator but when I open the lid, the clothes look like they haven't moved at all. I tried putting in half load on Normal Cycle, and the clothes near the middle, near the washplate looked like they had been agitated, but the clothes on top looked almost dry...

We've tried the following:
1. Remove and clean washplate, put it back.
2. Run clean washer cycle with Affresh.
3. Ran Diagnostics - The only error was "lid lock error"

We're stuck! Any guidance is much appreciated.

Thank you!!

Did you check to see if the washplate shaft is stripped?

Does the washer sound like this when its agitating?

Our washer is not making that clicking sound like in the video above.
We hear the sound as if it's agitating, but the wash plate is barely moving.

When you say washplate shaft, which part would that be...? The plastic part? It looked fine to my amateur eyes... but the metal portion that connects to it looked rusty...

The washplate shaft is the transmission the washplate connects to. I should of said transmission shaft, that should not be rusty, if so its bad.

Look at the photos of all the rust that another member posted in post #1 and post #5 here:

Here's the transmission for your model, see the very top of the transmission shaft?

If you decide to order the new transmission, its in-stock here:
