I have Maytag washing machine - model# MVWX655DW1 that is attempting to go into high spin mode. When it tries to step up to high speed there is a rubbing/grinding noise. I checked the splutch, belt and pulleys. I didn’t notice any of the splines of gear teeth worn down. I also check the wash plate splines and they look good. I was told by a phone tech that it sounding like the motor was the problem, but I am not sure if I am convinced yet. You can hear a little noise inside the gear box when turning the shaft from inside the machine, but it does turn freely either direction.
video is attached of problem at hand

Hi,

That sound, when its trying to spin, like a old model T trying to start, is usually the hub.:)

Check the hub.

Here's the hub for your model:
W10528947 Hub

Here's a video to access/replace it:

--->Look at these photos below of the hub teeth grinded down to smooth. It should NOT be grinded down to smooth.

Let us know what you find.

Good deal!
I will take it apart this weekend and see what the hub looks like before ordering. Thanks for suggestion
