The service manual does not show how to access the belt. I've only found YouTube videos and service manuals for the lower dryer only. Yet with the upper drying center, I assume the access may be different. Can you still access from the front? Where can I find detailed instructions.

Your right in a way, but it does show you how to remove the drum, once the drum is removed you can get to the belt, rollers, Idler pulley, motor, blower wheel.

Here's the parts diagram for your model: MCE8000AYW

Here's the service manual: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz...=sharing&resourcekey=0-GoGVgBETaxXi-ubjsEW9lA

Thank you Jake. For me though, the directions are not detailed enough. I went ahead and requested a tech to come and diagnose. Then at least I can watch and learn. I'm hoping that the total cost to replace the belt, slides, bearings and rollers will be under $400. Then perhaps my 17 year old Maytag Neptune Drying Center will be like new. (Making grinding sounds while tumbling).

That's fine, that is a good way to learn from watching live and in person.:)

Let us know how it goes.
