I have a Maytag Neptune dryer that quit drying. I am not real experienced at fixing this sort of stuff, so may ask a lot of questions. I have a multimeter, but not really sure how to use it very well.

I have taken the dryer apart to clean and vacuum out the inside and make sure that the vent and filter are clean and lint free.

So I guess I need to use the multimeter to test the resistance of some different parts? What parts do I start testing? Is someone able to guide me on using the multimeter to do the testing?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Here's the multimeter we recommend to do ohm testing with. Or you can get a multimeter like that at any hardware store.

Watch this video below, it shows you how to use the multimeter:

I'd first ohm test the thermal fuse and thermostat here:
#14 Thermal Fuse
#15 Thermostat

Make sure your dryer is unplugged when you ohm test them for continuity.

Also, At room temperature the thermistor should have 10,000 ohms resistance.

Here's the thermistor for your model:
WP35001191 Thermistor

Ohm test the heating element next: https://www.repairclinic.com/Repair...608/Dryer-Not-Heating-Heating-Element-Testing

Here's the heating element for your model:
Heating Element DC47-00019A

How to access video in part link.

Make sure you unplug the dryer first before accessing it and ohm testing it.

If the thermal fuse, thermostat, and thermistor and heating element all ohm test good, then the main control board is the culprit.

Here's the main control board for model:
WP35001153 Control Board

Let us know how it goes.

One more thing,

I always check the voltage at the terminal block where your dryer power cord hooks up to first. Use your multimeter to check for 240 volts across the 2 outer terminals.

So pull the dryer out from the wall, then unplug it, then open the access panel where the power cord wires mount on the dryer terminal block, then see if you notice any burnt wires.

I see this happen a lot too:

If no burnt wires, then plug the dryer back in and put your meter leads on the two outer terminals and see If your getting 240 volts across the outer two terminals.

IF NOT--->That's the problem when the dryer runs but doesn't heat.

Thank you for the reply! I found another video that walks through the ohms testing that was helpful for me. I found that the thermal fuse and high limit thermostat were bad, based on ohms testing. I have ordered the parts and will let you know when they are installed. Thank you.

My part arrived today and I was able to get it installed and the dryer is now heating! Thank you!!

I also have a venting question. The dryer instructions say not to use flexible venting. I really don't have much choice with the way things are laid out. Should I be concerned?

Excellent, glad to hear that.(y)

Yes, because that's the may cause of the thermal fuse and thermostat's failing.

You need very good air flow to the outside of your house.
