Maytag MEDC300XW0 Dryer is shutting off mid cycle. Will start again only if holding the start button. Vents and blower are recently totally cleaned. If the dryer rests for a little while it will run again without holding the start button. Any ideas?

If the dryer rests for a little while it will run again without holding the start button.

But you still have to press the start button to get it running again?

Dryer is shutting off mid cycle. Will start again only if holding the start button.

That is a symptom of the motor cutting out on its internal overload protector. Holding the start button is forcing it to run on the start motor winding only. (Don't do it too long!)

If the motor isn't just plugged with lint, etc. causing it to overheat, the motor likely needs to be replaced.

Thank you. I'll have to take the drum out to get to that motor correct. A new motor is roughly $150. Would it be worth it to replace the motor or buy a new dryer?

The OEM replacement part I linked to is $95.

Usually, yes. It's about the only 'big ticket' item to go wrong in a dryer. Has the dryer been a repeated troublemaker up to this point? If so, maybe choose replacement.

It’s been a great dryer for 10 years. I did replace the thermal fuse 6 months ago. That’s the only thing I’ve had to do.
I did clean the motor just now. Lots of lint. It still turns off early.
The start button is super spongy no audible click anymore. I’m going to try to replace that tomorrow. Then I’ll try that motor. Thanks for the link.
