I have two issues with my MFI2570FEZ12 Maytag refrigerator.
  1. Freezer not cooling sufficiently (30-35F)
  2. Ice maker barely makes ice (~1 tray per day)
Current temperature settings: -5F freezer and 34F refrigerator (doesn't matter what I set the fridge to, it does fine). I cleaned the coils under the fridge but no appreciable change. Attached is a picture of the evaporator coil in the back of the freezer. Any advice on next steps?

Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric,

That would be a sealed system issue, check your owners manual warranty, some models have a 5 yr. warranty on the sealed system/compressor.

Normal would be a thin layer of frost on ALL the coils from TOP to BOTTOM.

Look at the very bottom photo below where it says NORMAL FROST PATTERN.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. Just wanted a more experienced eye on it. So if I understand correctly, I'm in for a $1000+ sealed system repair bill on my 15-month-old refrigerator with its "10 year compressor parts-only" warranty?

Does your warranty say 5 years on sealed system parts and labor? Then 6-10 years on the compressor only?

Nevermind, I just found your warranty: https://www.maytag.com/content/dam/global/documents/201604/warranty-W10857668-W.pdf

SECOND THROUGH TENTH YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY (COMPRESSOR ONLY - LABOR NOT INCLUDED)

You can contact Maytag at 1-800-344-1274 for the warranty work.

I don't think labor would be $1000 that seems rather high.

Its usually around $500 to $600 for labor.

Whirlpool Corporation owns KitchenAid and Maytag.

Since its not that far out of your 1 yr. warranty, I'd first contact Maytag and see if they can cover you 100% on this repair: https://www.maytag.com/services/contact-us.html

Just be nice and courteous when you contact them, that goes a long ways to good results.:)

Good advice. I scheduled with a local repair shop through Maytag's online service and they gave similar advice. I called Whirlpool and they were gracious enough to extend warranty coverage for this repair. Thanks for you insight!

Excellent, glad to hear that.(y)

Let us know how it goes after they fix it, if you could please.:)
