I have a Maytag Stove Model # MGR6772BDS Ser # 14592001cp.

The bottom oven will not light. Since it is so close to xmas I can't get a new igniter in time and I am wondering if I can take the igniter out of the top oven and use it in the bottom oven until I can get the part?

can I take the igniter out of the top oven and use it in the bottom oven?

Which Ignitor? The parts list calls for 2 of the same broil burner ignitiors but 2 different bake burner ignitors.

While the bake ignitors could function in place of each other their wiring and support bracket might be different. One also looks to have additional insulation on its wiring which might be important. If you have to cut and splice wires (which might prevent swapping back), use ceramic (not plastic) wire nuts in any area affected by heat.

(The parts list doesn't specify which is for which oven.)

If you're not going to install the factory specified part, this Whirlpool 'adaptable replacement' ignitor might be a better way to go. At least it comes with appropriate wire nuts and would prevent the mutilation of the second oven ignitor.

That is interesting because there is only one broiler in the top oven only. The bottom does not have a broiler. This oven is quite old so I was thinking a universal igniter might tide me over until I can make a decision on a new stove. I remember replacing this igniter about 5 years ago.

I looked at the Bake igniter in the upper oven and the wiring harness looks the same as the one in the lower oven.

The broil ignitor is listed twice in the parts list I looked at. It is a pretty poor exploded view drawing so maybe it was a just a flaw in the parts listing?

I linked to the two bake ignitors called for that range model above. While the ignitor itself might be physically the same (which is why i said they're likely swappable) their wiring harness and as i said, wiring insulation are different.

Did you use the factory part back then?

BTW. The 'adaptable' part I linked to is still an OEM Whirlpool part and not a "universal" (ie. after-market) component.

It's up to you what you want to do.

That one is the ignitor without the extra wire insulation (now part # W11596211) so should be able to be replaced by the adaptable replacement ignitor.

The other ignitor might have its wiring more exposed to burner heat and require the extra wire insulation to prevent premature failure.

After calling all over town, I ordered a part based on how quickly it would arrive since I was wanting my oven for Christmas. Ended up ordering 7432p143-60. I had to use the provided wire nuts to connect it which made be a bit nervous but it worked! Thank you for your help!

Merry Christmas!
