• ** REMEMBER! **The microwave can still shock you even unplugged!!

ALWAYS discharge the high-voltage capacitor first if you even think your hands will come close to any HIGH VOLTAGE components.

Jeff mentions this: Anything in the high voltage ( magnetron, capacitor, diode, wires to and from ):
...Use a metal ( not the shiny chrome type ) screw driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same time ) the terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it.

Our Maytag MMV5220FZ-2 is starting to "act up" i.e. when trying to assert a time and then Start it says "Open and close door and press Start" and it doesn't, along with some other wierdness some times as well. Last night it did this and I pulled the plug on it and in the morning it started working again normally. I'm guessing the Control board is going bad, but now when I visit the parts page for it, the board #4 is not shown below. Of course, when it fails completely I will take it apart and look to see if the board has a Part Number on it, but... Jake can you or someone tell me which item I would order if I wanted to have the board at-the-ready here? Item 2B, or 2A, or 2, or ???

Parts for Maytag MMV5220FZ2: Control Panel Parts

Thanks for any help.

Hi Max, I've never worked on or had training on Microwaves, @jeff1 and @rickgburton are very good with microwaves and I think @Dan O. is too, so hopefully one of them can assist you.

Unfortunately, Rick has been out sick since Jan.12th with a serious illness, we are hoping and praying for a speedy recovery!

#4 is the main control board: Cntrl-Elec W11342989

My guess is there is possibly a problem with one (or more) or the 3 door switches or the door latching mechanism itself.

Ooh, Dan O. that is a really good thought. I will pay a lot more attention to the details of the displays now! Thanks!

And thanks Jake also--I am sorry to hear about your colleague Rick.

Thanks Dan, that make sense to me too.:)

If it occurs again, try closing the door more firmly rather than gingerly. That often assures all door switches are activated fully. If it works after that, it is a good indicator the switch mechanism needs further investigation.
