• ** REMEMBER! **The microwave can still shock you even unplugged!!

ALWAYS discharge the high-voltage capacitor first if you even think your hands will come close to any HIGH VOLTAGE components.

Jeff mentions this: Anything in the high voltage ( magnetron, capacitor, diode, wires to and from ):
...Use a metal ( not the shiny chrome type ) screw driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same time ) the terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it.

Suddenly my microwave sounds quieter and doesn't heat very well. This microwave is wired up to and outlet that is on the kitchen light circuit so everytime we turn the lights off it also turns the outlet off the microwave is on and vice versa. The kitchen was wired this way when we bought the house and the previous microwave worked for years this way. Is this possibly the problem with the microwave suddenly having heating problems? Can this damage the magnetron?

Call Maytag and set up a warranty service call. Everything is covered for the first year. To check it a cup of water should boil in 2 minutes.
