GE Profile side by side. Bought in 2008.

We've had black mold in the area near the water dispenser. Most of it is on a white circle above the dispenser. It looks a lot like the white circle at http://www.applianceaid.com/images/gss25hgpww1.jpg. We are able to clean about 90% of the area with a Q-tip, but there are nooks and crannies that we can't get to. So there's still black mold visible on that white circle. I want to clean EVERYTHING, so it seems that I can do that only if I remove that white circle.

Can that white circle be removed? The article at Ice Dispenser Door Help | Appliance Aid explains how to get to it, but can it be removed? If so, how?

Btw, I don't see any date on that article, so when it says "Newer GE fridges", I'm not sure what that means. "New" for an article written in 2002 means something different than "new" in a 2013 article.

The door flapper. I didn't realize until now that it opened and closed, so I was calling it a "white circle." Can that be removed?

Remove the 2 screws on the "L" shaped brackets to remove the flapper door.

Sorry to be lame, but I’m not sure what you mean. Are you talking about the screws shown at </SPAN>http://www.applianceaid.com/images/gss25hgpww1.jpg</SPAN>, where one is above and to the left of the white circle (near where wires come out) and the other is above and right?</SPAN></SPAN>

Are the brackets of which you speak labeled as something else at </SPAN>http://www.applianceaid.com/images/genew-dispensor.JPG</SPAN>?</SPAN></SPAN>

Also, am I correct that I need to first pry off the key panel per the "GE's newest SxS refrigerator dispenser" section of </SPAN>http://www.applianceaid.com/ice-dispenser-door-help.php</SPAN>?</SPAN></SPAN>

Thanks.</SPAN></SPAN>

Nope, see pic.

If you are not as far as the pic is, yes.
