How do you align the sleeve during Maytag Top loader bearing/seal/shaft replacement?

I just completed the bearing replacement in a Maytag Bravos top loader - kind of a pain in the ### as many of you know. Especially so if you never did it before.

There are many videos on Youtube that help with this installation but I had a lot of trouble aligning the drive shaft sleeve at the where it contacts the top bearing. As you know if you have done this, the tolerances are very tight and after you have installed the bearings using the tool, the sleeve is tightly wedged in place. If it is even 0.5 mm off laterally. you cannot get the drive shaft to drop in place - it gets hung up on the rim of the sleeve and it is very difficult getting it in place - I had to uninstall the lower bearing and start over again and even then I just got lucky.

Is there some trick I'm missing?

Thanks,
