My Maytag bravos MVWX655DW1 has an unstable spin cycle. I researched this and took off the washplate to inspect the hub. No question it is has been stripped. During my research I also watch a couple of videos of people removing the basket. They needed some fancy pulling tool (or a car jack in one case) in order to separate the basket from the gear/spindle. Mine came right off without any issue as I was removing the hub. In fact I put the hub back on and the basket can wobble with respect to the gear/spindle since it isn't a tight fit. Is that going to be a problem? Also it looks like there is corrosion on the gear/spindle itself. Will the entire gearcase need to be replaced?

Yes, on yours you will need a new hub and a new gearcase.

Here's the hub for your model:

Here's the transmission(gearcase) for your model: W11454734 Gearcase
