This happens on either timed or Auto dry. With dryer NOT running. With timer in any position even off it will continue to advance by itself and turn just the heat on and off as it advance through any cycle. This happens even with the door open.
How can this happen evn in the off position. I have to unplug the dryer to stop it.
Funny thing is I can dry cloths and it will run and when timed drying is done the dryer motor will shut off like it is supposed to but the timer will keep advancing. Weird.
Any help is apprciated. Cant find exact propblem anywhere.

The heat should NEVER come on without the motor running. There is a switch within the motor to prevent it. You may have several problems.

For the timer never stopping, I don't know of anything other than a problem with the timer itself. One of its internal contracts may be shorted, continually powering the timer's motor.

For the heat coming on without the dryer running, the dryer element may be shorted to ground thereby bypassing the motor safety switch.

⚠️ BTW. The element coming on without the motor running is a VERY dangerous situation. Leave the dryer unplugged until it can be serviced!

Thank you I did check out heating element and it was grounded. I took element out and it was still intact but the top coil was bowed and grounding out to case. I bent it back in place and it fixed all problems. Timer now stops on off. That is the only thing I still don’t understand how it good keep moving past off in original problem. Thanks for your help. Also never heard of bowing element. Guess it could happen again. Should be some kind of safety feature for grounded element.

Metal expands when hot. (An element gets very hot.). They can remain in an expanded state as the material ages and loses its flexibility. It could very well occur again.
