nothing happens

We moved into our house the end of May, and the garbage disposal worked. It would need to be unclogged often if used, but it worked nonetheless. Now, nothing happens when you turn on the switch. No noise, no spinning, nothing. And, the sink backs up as well as the dishwasher pushing stuff up. Does it need to be replaced or is there something I'm missing. Thank you!

There should be a little push button reset on the very bottom of it, try that first.

Its likely at the end of its life at any rate since your saying it would need to be unclogged often. So replacing it with a new one would be wise.
