Hello,
So my GE dishwasher gives me error E3 after a cycle, and it only goes away when I disconnect power. I have tried replacing the heating element and checked that the water inside is hot. I am sure E3 is a heating issue. One thing to note is that I have a Rinnai water heater, which heats water when you need it, so the first batch is usually not so hot. This never was an issue till now though. Any ideas what can be causing this?

Hi,

PBT860SMMES is Canadian Only GE which we are not able to pull up any tech data information on here in the USA.

So your tech. data sheet says E3 is a heating issue? What else does it say? Can you scan it and upload it here so we can see it?

That's a good question, but I don't know if that would effect the dishwasher or not, the weather has turned colder now that its winter in North America so they may play a role in this problem.

Did it do the same thing last winter?

Hey Jake,

I dont think I have a tech sheet, I have a manual and an installation guide which are both useless and have no error codes on them.... I just reached out to GE for a tech sheet hope they reply. Last winter it was fine, the heating element went bad 2 weeks ago then the error started, I thought replacing the element would fix it. Now I'm thinking maybe there is a way to "reset" the heating element maybe? I will upload the tech sheet once I get it.

Ok yes, try to locate your tech. data sheet, its usually behind the lower front access panel.

I think I managed to find the Tech Sheet!!
So I ran it in service mode and it showed error E7 (error codes shown at bottom right) which is code for thermal sensor short. Although it was showing E3 before. Does this help??

Thanks!

That tech data sheet is very vague, it just shows the error codes and what part relates to them, it doesn't give you a flowchart to test the parts.

Also I can't pull up a parts diagram for your model either.

Its best to contact GE Canada to come out at 1-800-561-3344 and see what's going on, I won't be able to help you on this one, sorry.
