Over the past 6 weeks, a local service tech has been servicing this 6 year old dishwasher as it was failing to fill with water at the beginning of a wash cycle. After changing the pump, a defective main control board and the flood switch (in that order) it finally seemed to be working. Thank goodness.

Well, for the next few days I have noticed that pots and bowls turned upside down on the lower rack do not come out clean, although dishes and utensils seem to clean just nicely. Everything on the top rack cleans perfectly.

After obtaining a service manual for the dishwasher and doing a lot of reading, I am now suspecting the problem to be with the active diverter. But before I spend another $150 Cdn on a replacement part (I'm already $650 into this repair) is there anything else I should be looking at?

One question that does come to mind is about the main control board... I remember when he replaced the board he had to call someone because the board didn't have some jumpers he was expecting to see. After reading the service manual, I realize now that these must have been the personality jumpers he was referring to. So my question is, how do you set the personality on such a board with no jumpers? I saw him do something with the buttons on top of the door, but not sure what. If the personality is not set correctly, could this impact the operation of the diverter? I understand there are two possible types of diverters in GE dishwashers... so if the board is wrong one (even slightly) or if the personality is set wrong, could this be the root cause of this new problem? I did not have this poor washability problem before he started swapping parts.

Thanks, in advance for any feedback.

Here's the machine control board(underneath the dishwasher) for your model: Configured Mc Board WD21X31900
I have not replaced this particular control board, so I don't know if it comes with personality jumpers or not, if it does there will be instructions in the box it came in to show you how to set them, per your model number.

I don't have the service manual for this model, so unfortunately I have no way to assist you on your current problem, hopefully another tech or member with this same model that has seen this problem before and fixed it can assist you.

Thanks Jake. I have a PDF of the service manual. Can I share it here? If so, would that help you to help me?! Thanks,

John

Yes John, that would be good.:)

Thanks, Page 72 and 73 is the Power Diverter help pages, then Page 77--->Circulation diagnostics

I'm not familiar with this model, I have not worked on it before, so you will mainly need to follow the service manual on how to troubleshoot the Power Diverter.

Here's the Power Diverter for your model: https://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Diverter-Valve/WD35X20598/3029108

Thanks Jake. Before I go down that road, I have a few more questions that I'm hoping you or someone else may be able to answer...

1. I checked for fault codes and saw none. If the diverter was faulty (at all) should a fault code be logged?
2. The cable that connects to the diverter, where does it go?? If this cable is unplugged or defective, could this cause my problem?

Thanks again

Yes, you would think so.

It should connect onto that Power Diverter, I see a connection for it in the photo of it in the RepairClinic link I posted above.

I circled it in RED:

Is it not connected?
