My dishwasher's door droops to one side because the weld holding the hinge bracket on the door broke. GE repairman says they can't fix and the unit must be replaced. The dishwasher works fine and doesn't leak. Seems like a huge waste to replace it. Is it possible?

Model # PDW9980L00SS

Piece welded onto door broke off. The body is okay and the dishwasher can be used without leaking any water.

It's the left side arm hinge. According to the GE technician, "the weld of the door hinge has broken from the tub. Since that items is something spot welded to the tub during manufacturing, it's not something that can be repaired. "

Piece in the door broke or a piece inside the d/w body broke?

That was what I asked....it is not the door that is broken but something on the tub itself broke.

If a weld broke on the metal bar/support going around the w/d body...

...that part is not replaceable but I'd try drilling a couple of small holes and add 2 or 3 self taping screws where th welds use to be and see what happens.
