Pilot lights then goes out when baking = gas leak. What's wrong with it?

I'm not entirely sure how old this unit is. It was here when we bought the house so it may well be over 10 years old. Whirlpool Model SF315PEGW.
I'll turn the oven on to bake and the pilot flame comes on (my husband checked it). The oven won't heat up. My husband looked and said the flame went out. We've tried turning the oven off and back on and the same thing happens; the flame goes out, the oven doesn't heat, and we start to smell gas.
If he relights the pilot with a grill lighter it will stay lit.

This started happening within the past week. I don't know if it matters but it just started getting cold here. It's happening every time we go to use the oven now.

Any idea what's going on with it?

Your range doesn't have a pilot light. It uses an igniter that draws 3.2 to 3.6 amps to open the oven safety valve. They get weak over time and need to be replaced. Replace the igniter and that will fix the problem.
