Morning Everyone,

Thanks for your help thus far! I originally had an issue with my PLFU1778ES4 freezer making a humming noise that ultimately stopped and my freezer was no longer cooling. It ended up being the evaporator fan which was frozen over and stuck in position so it could not circulate cold air. There was also frost (like icicles) near the top of my freezer when this was all happening.

I replaced the evaporator fan motor and the fan and cleaned off the coils. After that, the freezer was working fine again and freezing like normal.

Nothing seems to be working out of the ordinary for the past two weeks, however now the air that is blowing out of the top vents is cooler than the refrigerator but not cold enough to freeze. Also, our ice machine is not making ice.

Changing the evaporator motor and fan fixed the freezer for +/- 2 weeks and now this.

I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or two totally independent issues. The amount of air flowing out of the evaporator vents at the top of the freezer feels about the same amount when I put in the new motor and fan a couple of weeks ago so it doesn't appear to be an airflow issue. He also turned the temperature setting to coldest and it didn't help.

Any thoughts on this one?

Hi,

Remove the false back wall and snap a picture of the frost pattern on the evaporator/cooling coils and post it here so we can have a peek.

Sorry for the delay Jeff Sr. - busy week at work. So the back panel was covered in frosted ice. Same goes for the cooling coils. See pics. Is there what you're looking for? I appreciate your willingness to help and provide feedback.

You’re the man! So I’m guessing this is probably no longer a DIY job? Might need to call someone out?

If you can use and ohm/volt meter and know which end of a screwdriver to hold.....this is often a DIY job.....but any doubt and call someone in to check it out for you.

Anytime! I always see posts on so many forums where people are trying to help and the original poster never closes the loop or says what the outcome was. I always assume they fixed it, but it would be nice to know given the time everyone invested. Anyway, thanks again - you saved me money so I can now spend it on other things (like my pool heater that just went out!!). It's always something!
