Freezer evap. defrost heater doesn't seem to be working.

I have continuity through the heater and the bi-metal thermostat, and about 31 ohms resistance, so that seems OK.

Heater does not come on when I turn on defrost through the diagnostic menu (test number 93 or 60). If I unplug the connector with the heater/thermostat on it from the plug in the evaporator compartment and check the wires feeding the heater circuit, I get no voltage when I run test 60. I'm guessing I should, unless unplugging the connector would cause the main board not to turn on the power.

I assume the main board must be bad, but it would be nice to have some confirmation before I order a new one. Anything else I should check to confirm?

Thanks

Hi,

I have not seen this board before...sorry!
Have you found the wire diagram? If yes, post a copy here so we can have a peek.

Many times we just test every thing else ( heater, stat, etc ) until the board is the item left and then replace the board.

Here is the mini manual Jake gave me when I was looking into another issue.

Defrost heater shows neutral coming from the orange and power from J2-2 Yellow from board.
Defrost heater shows neutral coming from the orange and power from J1-4 Blue from board.
Both show an over temp thermostat for 140ºF.

Diagram didn't say which was which but yellow or blue wire lead to help narrow down which one you where looking for.

I think I got it, thanks. No power from the board to the defrost heater when I turn it on from the diagnostic menu. I ordered a new board.
