I am trying to understand what is a normal amount of frost on the freezer coils. I've attached a photo to help me diagnosis this issue. The freezer has been on since 9 pm last night and it currently at 2 degrees and 37 degrees.

Recently my refrigerator wasn't getting below 45 degrees. I found the Fresh Food Thermistor to be bad so I replaced it and fridge is colder again. It has taken about 16 hours to reach 2 degrees in freezer and 37 degrees for refrigerator, but it was sitting around 70 degrees with doors open when I started the cooling process.

Now I am trying to see if I need to test my heater, defrost timer and/or the defrost thermostat but not sure if this amount of frost is normal.

Thanks for the help.

Hi,

Above shows what the frost should and should not look like.

Your pics shows fairly good and even frost from the bottom up until the last 3 coils which appear to be bare = a weak refrigeration system. Could be a leaker, restriction, inefficient compressor or any combination of these.

It has taken about 16 hours to reach 2 degrees in freezer and 37 degrees for refrigerator, but it was sitting around 70 degrees with doors open when I started the cooling process.

Usually should take 4-6 hours to start and get back to temp, 12 hours to be back at temp, and 24 hours before getting into a normal on and off routine.
