Hi - R520BS is a built-in Sharp Carousel microwave that sits over a Thermador oven. Both are very old and one (or both) are likely to be need to be replaced soon.

I have 2 questions, and will be very impressed if somebody is smart enough to have the answers!

1.) The manual states that the model is has "UL approval" - but for just 4 specific electric wall ovens (see picture below)

• What is the reasoning behind this?
• What options would we have if we needed to replace our Thermador oven?

2.) If we wanted to replace the Sharp microwave how likely would it be that we could find something that works with the existing cabinet space/trim?

Any microwave can be installed above the built-in oven. Back when those were built, microwaves didn't use an AC noise filter. Now they all have them because of all the electronics in them. UL checked if AC line noise would affect the oven models listed probably because they used an electronic display. As far as finding one that will fit in a certain spot you'll just need to take some measurements. I don't think you'll have any issues.

If that microwave was installed with a build-in kit, you may very well have a difficult time to find a replacement that will fit exactly. Some cabinetry work will likely be necessary IMO. If it just sits on a open shelf or is an OTR vent hood model, it should be no problem to replace, just look for one of similar size.

BTW. If you are also going to build-in a replacement microwave, make sure the model you buy has a build-in kit available for it. Not all microwaves do have such kits for them and you can't just enclose most microwave into a cabinet. They need good air circulation. Check the installation instructions before buying.
