My dishwasher randomly wakes up (makes a noise as if the door was opened) throughout the day. The other day it wouldn't turn on at all (display was completely dead). I rewired the dishwasher and cycled the breaker and it turned back on. The dishwasher is working, but still randomly makes noise as if the door was opened, and after a cycle is complete, the green status light does not stay on (shuts off when the dishwasher makes the wakeup noise). Does the UI board need replaced?

Yes, the UI Board is the cause of the random wakeups, seen this many times on my service calls, and the new UI Board(at the top of the dishwasher door), always fixes it.:)

This is the correct UI Board for your model: WD21X31910

There is a video in that part link, that shows you how to install it. Remember to set the personality jumpers before you install it, the instructions will come with the new UI Board.

Let us know how it goes.

Just got around to messing with this. The LED on the control board is solid green, doesn't flash at all. I tested the voltage (using ACV 200 on my multimeter) on pins 2 and 5 on the control board and it shows zero. Does that mean it's my control board?

*UPDATE*

I re-wired the dishwasher (took off wire nuts, re-connected, etc) and now the dishwasher has come back on. Im getting 120v coming in, and now the LED is flashing about once a second, but the voltage to the control board is all over the place. It seems to settle around 10, but if I move the probes around it jumps all over, sometimes 8, sometimes, 14, etc.

Then in your case its best to order and replace both the UI Board(at the top of the dishwasher door) and machine control board(underneath the dishwasher). Both of these parts have high failure rates.

Here's the machine control board for your model--->WD21X24901 Machine Control

You don't think the UI could be going in and out because of the inconsistent voltage in the control board? I just hate to spend almost $300 in parts for a $500 dishwasher. I just find it odd how the entire dishwasher will go out, but if I just disconnect the wire nuts and redo them, it comes back on, but the UI does continue to beep and go out from time to time as if the door was opened.

Nope, random wake-ups are always a sign of a bad UI Board.

That's why you need to make sure those wire nuts are TIGHT. You shouldn't have to do that once the dishwasher is installed brand new.

They are as tight as I can get them, and I pulled on the wires individually once the wire nuts was on and they don't budge. I always tape mine as well so it's not like they are working their way loose. The dishwasher is working, but still has the random wake up's. Even when the control board wasn't showing 12-14v, the dishwasher still functioned just fine, it just had the random wakeup issue.

Ok, got it!

The new UI Board will fix the random wake ups.:)

So what if the dishwasher is completely dead, does that mean it's the control board?
At this point the dishwasher is completely dead. Getting 120 input, but when testing pin 2 and 5 on the control board that runs to UI, it constantly fluctuates between 7-12 volts and is never a constant voltage. LED on control board is solid green.

Ok, like I mentioned in post #5:

Order and replace both and you should be back in business.

Thanks for the info. Didn't make financial sense for me to replace both $265 total, so I just bought a new dishwasher for $425 and called it a day. Thanks for your help!

Ok, sounds good.(y)

Thanks for the update!
