Samsung pushed a new Privacy Policy with a Policy Notice dated January 27, 2023. The policy notice screen has a checkbox where you should be able to say you've read and agree to the new policy. There is also a Close option. The notice is in a modal window meaning that no background tablet options are accessible unless you close the notice window. However, the display of text for the notice is truncated. Since the window does not display the full message, the checkbox is disabled. Since the checkbox is not checked, the Close option is disabled.

I've spent hours on the phone with Samsung support, privacy policy department, Smart Things department, and appliance repair team. We've tried resetting the tablet using the button on the top of the door. No change. We've tried unplugging, waiting a few minutes, and plugging back in. No change.

Of course, my fridge is out of warranty as I purchased it in November of 2020. I now have an out-of-warranty service appointment scheduled for March 13th, 2023 as that is the soonest appointment available.

I'm pretty sure the technician is not going to be able to do anything with the software issue. I find it very hard to believe in this day and age of technology that Samsung does not have a software support department.

Anyone else have this issue that has been resolved?

Update: I found the "Email the CEO" on the Samsung site. After submitting my issue to them via the email, I was contacted by a representative from Samsung indicating that even though my fridge was out of warranty, they agreed the issue was due to their software and would be covering the cost of the service visit as well as any parts needed to address the issue.

I am somewhat shocked and pleasantly surprised at the same time.

Yes, that is quite odd. You'd think more people with your model would have this issue too, but no one else has come here to report it, you are the first.

Sounds good, thanks for letting us know.(y)

Let us know what the Samsung tech finds is the problem, if you could please. Thanks!

Update:
Well, I was standing next to the fridge preparing my morning coffee. The privacy notice was displaying as it has been and I clicked on the accept box as I have a hundred times before. Much to my surprise, it actually accepted the input and checked the box. I was then able to click the Close button and the notice cleared. I had performed the same action the night before and many times every day since it first appeared. I have no way to know if Samsung pushed out an updated version of the notice, or if something else within the tablet's interface freed up to allow it to work. Nevertheless, I no longer need the service call and I cancelled it with the contractor. I really do not like the unknown factor of why it worked, but I will accept the win and go on with life. It is good to know that Samsung was willing to step up and cover the costs of addressing the issue.

Thanks sounds good, glad to hear that.(y)

Thanks for letting us know the outcome!
