Samsung dryer, DV45K6500EV/A3. Select cycle, press start. Drum doesn't start turning, but display reads as if it has (timer starts, indicator for "drying" blinking). After about 15 seconds, there is a very quiet *click* coming from the machine, and about 20 seconds after that, the display drops to 1min with "cooling" indicator blinking. No drum turning, no other activity.

I could not locate the service manual for this model.

Its possibly your thermal fuse that went out. That also can cause the dryer to not run at all if its bad.

Here's the thermal fuse for your model:
Thermal Fuse DC47-00016A

Once you click on the link to that part there will be 2 videos that show you how to access it and test it. Make sure you disconnect power to the dryer first before accessing it and ohm testing it.

The main reason the thermal fuse goes bad is air flow restrictions in your exhaust hose that goes to the outside of your home, lint build-up over the years effects the air flow, also go outside and check your dryer vent, that can clog up too.

If the thermal fuse is good, also, you can check the door switch for continuity:

Well, it wasn't that. The belt was off, and the tensioner arm for the belt had engaged the fail-safe switch. I'm not a dryer-ologist, but this wheel is faulty, which caused the drums rotation to be slightly off, and combined with a year of storage with temps exceeding -40°F in Alaska...the belt disintegrated bit by bit until it slipped off. I cleaned things out really well and tested the thermal fuse, it's good.

Do you happen to have part #'s for this wheel and a belt?

Jake, local shop had the parts above o/h. Dryer re-assembled, (no screws leftover!!) and everything is working great! As a bonus, I've added a multi-meter to my "My Dad can fix it" kit. Mark this thread as repaired, and thank you for your time!
