My Samsung dryer makes a metallic sound grinding sound. I checked the rollers, idler pulley and belt, they all appear fine. My thought is the drum is out of round, I tried spinning the drum with the top raised and it does appear to be out of round. Is this a common issue? Or should I replace the rollers, idler pulley & belt?

Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,

Check your dryer drum thoroughly and look for cracks in it, that would make it go out-of-round and cause the grinding metallic noise.

Here's the dryer drum for your model:

Thanks, Jake; I'm going to do some more troubleshooting on the problem, tomorrow. I'll pull the drum and give it a good inspection, as well as the rollers. I didn't have time to do a thorough inspection of all the parts, today.

Thanks
Steve

OK, I did some more inspection of the dryer. I'm 99% sure the drum is out of round. No visible crack but the gaps along the bulk head change as the drum rotates. Additionally, the drum and rollers don't maintain continuous contact as it rotates.

New drum on order, should be here on Tuesday. I'll post results after I replace the drum.

Thanks
Steve

New drum installed & tested, it appears to have fixed the problem. The real buy off will be when my wife says it's good!
