Background: This is my first post here, but looking for help. Didn't much in a search yet. I've owned this oven for a little over 3 years. My girlfriend and I don't cook every night but cook Pizzas, and make mac n cheese on the stove top. I don't think i've ever used the convection Bake.

So last night, my girlfriend turned the far left knob to turn on a burner when there was a loud POP. I was not in the room but she described a flame coming from the back. It got her hand a little and also made little black burn specs on the wall. Sounded like something electrical. It also popped the breaker for the range. I did not try turning it back on. I am an IT guy and have quite a bit of experience with hardware and motherboards, so I took the back panel off. I really don't see any burn marks or any wires that look frayed. Maybe i'm not looking for the right thing.

This is the burner knob (I had already taken the screws out to remove it)

That looks to be the left front dual element switch ("far left"). It sounds like something shorted, probably in the switch. Set your meter to measure continuity/ohms and check the element by disconnecting the gray wire, violet wire and the orange wire from the switch and measure between the gray wire and the violet wire (inner element) and then measure between the gray wire and the orange wire (outer element). Measure between each wire and ground. Should be infinite or open. If the element checks good leave the three element wires off the switch and restore power. Reset your circuit breakers if necessary. With the switch in the off position you should measure 220 VAC between the red wires and the black wires still on the switch and 0 VAC between the gray wire terminal and the other two terminals.
