• ** REMEMBER! **The microwave can still shock you even unplugged!!

ALWAYS discharge the high-voltage capacitor first if you even think your hands will come close to any HIGH VOLTAGE components.

Jeff mentions this: Anything in the high voltage ( magnetron, capacitor, diode, wires to and from ):
...Use a metal ( not the shiny chrome type ) screw driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same time ) the terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it.

Hi All-

We have a Samsung ME179KFETSR microwave that every once in awhile would lock up and display an error code SE. The only way to unlock it is to unplug the unit for a few minutes and it would work fine for a while until recently. It is happening almost every day now The unit is just over a year old so it is out of warranty. The factory claims they are not aware of any issues with this unit but if you read the reviews many people have the same problem. Are you aware of any fixes I can do myself? My hunch is it is a circuit board but I'm not sure if those can be replaced. I have contacted the service department and am waiting for an estimate. I fear it will cost as much as a new microwave so I will have to trash this unit.

Any help would be realty appreciated.

Rick

Hi,

It is easy to find troubles with an SE or 5E....but so far I havn't found any with your model#.
Previous models we have to replace the control box assembly....probably the same with yours then also...

Thanks Jeff,

It turns out that I have extended warranty with Samsung because I registered the microwave on line the repair is covered. The sent out a tech and he determined that the problem is exactly what you thought it was, the control box. I just received the replacement part and they are going to install in the next few days. I will let you know if that fixed the problem. I believe it will.

Thanks Again.
