• ** REMEMBER! **The microwave can still shock you even unplugged!!

ALWAYS discharge the high-voltage capacitor first if you even think your hands will come close to any HIGH VOLTAGE components.

Jeff mentions this: Anything in the high voltage ( magnetron, capacitor, diode, wires to and from ):
...Use a metal ( not the shiny chrome type ) screw driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same time ) the terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it.

I have a Samsung OTR which is three years old. Recently when heating food, the main vent (fan) does not turn on automatically to cool the interior. The fan is fine and can be operated manually at all 4 speeds from the control panel. The magnitron cooling fan works too. Does anybody know which part turns on the fan during operation? The yellow fan wire is the lowest speed and goes to the back of touch panel. Thanks

Hi,

I found SMH1926S/XAA

Recently when heating food, the main vent (fan) does not turn on automatically to cool the interior

Which fan is this?
The exhaust fan?

The magnitron cooling fan works too.

The fan behind the magnetron is normally what is used to circulate air through the cooking cavity...is this not working?

Thanks Jeff. The manetron fan works fine but is not enough to keep the interior cool. The exhoust fan does not turn on during operation. So after about 15 to 20 minutes of operation the microwave gets so hot that it shuts off the power to the whole thing. I just bought a Whirlpool microwave and the main exhaust fan turns on during operation. Are you saying that Samsung exhaust fan is not supposed to turn on? If so, what causes overheating?
Thanks

I just bought a Whirlpool microwave

What is the model#?

Are you saying that Samsung exhaust fan is not supposed to turn on?

Normally units with the two fans inside, do not turn on the exhaust fan during the cooking.....some newer units only have one fan inside and this version must turn on the exhaust during the cooking as there is not other fan.

If so, what causes overheating?

Dirty filters, weak thermostat, slow fan.....

jeff.
