This gas oven/range unit; the ovens bake not working. Igniter is in good condition. I have continuity across both bake and broil valve prong pairs and 120V across wire leads feeding both gas valves according what is turned on . Valve is listed for 3.03/3.3 vac ?? Can gas valve be defective even when have continuity across gas valve contacts ? Is the safety work from a photocell or continuity of a good igniter ? Could gas valve be defective even though there's continuity in coil of valve ?
Thank You...

Yes.

I don't know what you're asking. It is the exact amperage draw of the ignitor that is important to the valve's operation as described at the following link.

LINK > Appliance411 FAQ: Understanding Gas Oven Ignition Systems

Igniter is in good condition.

The only way the ignitor can be pronounced "good" is by testing its amperage draw. No other measurement or observation can determine that. A 'weak' ignitor is the most common cause (~80%) of problems in such oven ignition designs. And yes, an ignitor can glow and still be defective.

Test its amperage draw to determine if it is defective or not. It needs to draw 3.2 to 3.6 amps or is defective and needs to be replaced.

OK; I'm reading 2.5-2.7 amps A/C across the igniter and It's glowing. Would that amperage be enough, or could the igniter be defective , and If so, where's a good distributor to purchase ? I'm finding them on Amazon <$30

Thank You...

No, that is not 3.2 to 3.6 amps.

Those are aftermarket replacements. I have no idea of their quality or longevity. While I usually recommend OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts the price Samsung is selling theirs for is ridiculous IMO. You could try one of the aftermarket ones and if it didn't last a reasonable amount of time, next time try the OEM Samsung part instead.

LINK > Aftermarket Samsung Ignitors

If any are marked "ERP", they might be the best choice of the aftermarket components. ERP is a well known supplier of aftermarket parts and might have better quality control than some others... maybe. Aftermarket parts are frequently a crap shoot.

Yes ! I found an igniter on Amazon; same separate plug connectors. works ! Being an Electrician ; I assumed if the old igniter had shown any current; not an open; it would allow gas valve open. I guess gas valve control must see a specified current flow to open the gas valve.

Thank you so much for your help!

The gas valve needs a specific amperage draw to open. It is a safety design.

Thanks for the followup. Keep an eye on the ignitor. If it fails prematurely, you may have to consider the OEM Samsung igniter next time.
