I have a brand new Samsung side by side refrigerator, model RS27T5200SR/AA. It's about a month old. Suddenly, it was no longer cooling. Temps were rising in both the fridge and freezer. Lights were on, everything looked like it was working. I reset it by unplugging and waiting 5 minutes and plugging it back in. I put it on power cool and power freeze and temps dropped back to where they should be. I had some thermometers in each compartment which was a relief because I could see how high the temps had gotten before discovering it. I decided to purchase a set of wireless thermometers that records the temp swings each 24 hour period. Over the last 24 hours, the freezer has gone as high as 19 degrees, while mostly holding steady at 0 degrees. The fridge is set at 36 and has been between 36 and 39 degrees.

I understand that fluctuation is normal but 19 degrees does not seem right. I'll call for service to have someone look at it, but have used this site for many years for such great information and figured I'd see if this was a known issue with this fridge or if anyone knows what this could be. Thanks in advance.

Hi Scott,

The defrost heater puts out a lot of heat so it depends where you take the temperature and how much stuff is in there. Anywhere from 20*F to 25*F is normal if the amount of time it stays there, WHICH isn't very long. The normal defrost cycle is about 20 minutes so it shouldn't be any longer than 30 minutes for the temperature to start dropping back down.
