The left rear element on my Samsung stove stopped working. It tested bad so I replaced it. Still doesn’t work. And now the hot stovetop light stays on all the time. I swapped controls with another working element. No luck. I rechecked the connections. They all look right.
I must admit I’m stumped at this point.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jeff sr.
Thanks for your reply. I considered a miss wired new part initially. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the hot stovetop light wires are on the 1B and 2B prongs. They have no conductivity as the switch should be open when the stovetop is cool.
I took photos of the wires before I removed the original element.

Yes, that’s the element in the photo

No idea without seeing the ranges diagram, can you post a copy of yours?

And now the hot stovetop light stays on all the time.

Yes the open switch at room temp and the one that closes once the element is hot enough is normally the surface is hot light. The fact it can on as soon as you replaced the element seems to say miss-wired is more possible.

Was there any instructions with the new element? Sometimes the switch terminal placements change when we get a replacement part.

Additionally, sometimes the limit switch terminals are located in different locations depending on the component manufacturer at the time. Did you go by the actual terminal numbering on the part or just go by the terminal positions?

Once you get to it again, it should be easy enough to test if the new element is defective right out of the box or was miswired.
